The Gallery Collection Event – Powered by Cougar and Lynx

What do you get when you put jaw-dropping print samples and creative leaders in one space on the eve of one of the most highly anticipated events in the creative industry? You get The Gallery Collection, an exclusive invitation-only event featuring Cougar® & Lynx® and powered by Domtar Paper.

For over seven years, The Gallery has been a platform for graphic designers and printers to share their experience on Domtar Paper. It’s a wonderful opportunity to not only share your work with the world but also get the inspiration you need to create a truly powerful, attention-getting printed piece. To spread the excitement of print in a live setting, we’ve featured the best of the Gallery printed pieces at various tradeshows and events, including HOW Design Live and Project Peacock.

On November 3, 2019, in Los Angeles (the evening before Adobe Max) Domtar Paper took “printspiration” to the next level with The Gallery Collection—a live gallery paper exhibition featuring the most dynamic printed pieces on Cougar® and Lynx® that have been submitted over the past seven years. Complete with live music, drinks, hor d’oeuvres and a design contest, this event was highly anticipated by Adobe MAX attendees and L.A. creative residents alike. It was absolutely thrilling to see so many paper enthusiasts and creative leaders meet, mingle and create a sense of community through interacting with examples of awe-inspiring print.

One of the most exciting activities that took place that night was the design contest for The Judge’s Award. Domtar was humbled and thrilled to have two highly notable experts from the print and design industry on-location to pick the winner based on design execution, use of paper and print quality. The judges were:

  • Deborah Corn – print industry speaker, blogger, host of “Podcasts from The Printerverse and cultivator of Print Production Professionals, the #1 print group on LinkedIn.
  • Tyrone Drake – a creative professional and design educator at Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. His professional client list includes Ringo Starr, Montage and The Roosevelt Hollywood Hotels, Walt Disney Consumer Products, Los Angeles Clippers (NBA) and 20th Century Fox Pictures.

After intense deliberation, the judges agreed on a winner – American Crew 25th Anniversary Book , printed on Cougar 80 lb. Text and 100 lb. Cover, Smooth Finish. Featuring heavy ink coverage, flawless rich blacks and incredible photography, this piece excelled in all categories and stood as a powerful testament to the positive impact that print and Cougar paper can have to make a brand’s message powerful and meaningful.

As the evening closed, Domtar surprised Tyrone Drake with a donation to the Hoffmitz Milken Center for Typography (founded by the Art Center College of Design) scholarship fund. We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute to the creative community by helping a design student and future design professional.

On behalf of everyone at Domtar Paper, I’d like to extend our gratitude to everyone that attended The Gallery Collection event. Your enthusiasm and excitement about bringing  creative ideas to life with print and paper inspires us more than you will ever know. If you weren’t able to attend the event, don’t worry—the party doesn’t stop! If you’re attending Adobe MAX, visit Domtar Paper at booth 820 in the community pavilion. If you’ve recently completed an outstanding printed piece you’d like to share with the world, submit it to The Gallery. You may be featured on the blog, at our next event or in the next edition of Paper MattersTM magazine.
