Another year is in the rearview mirror and we were blown away by the artistic creativity and diversity of art designed on Domtar paper this past year. The Domtar Paper Gallery showcases inspirational works of art printed on our paper with the purpose of fueling creativity, igniting minds and celebrating the world of art and paper. Without even leaving your couch, we invite you to join us in looking back at the inspirational works of art submitted by creatives across North America in the past year.
1. RGD In-House Design Awards Annual
Our first submission into the gallery in 2022, came from our friends at RGD. The Association of Registered Graphic Designers (RGD) is an industry organization where designers can exchange ideas, educate, inspire, set professional standards and build a strong, supportive community dedicated to advocating for the value of design.
The In-House Design Awards book showcases some of the most effective examples of creative solutions from in-house design teams across North America. RGD’s 2021 Annual In-House Award book was designed by Herschel Supply and printed by Moveable on Lynx 100 lb. Cover and 80 lb. Text.
2. KCAI President’s Report
The Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI) had a special purpose for their annual President’s Report. They wanted the piece to commemorate the retirement of their President, Tony Jones.
This special edition of their annual President’s Report features a 4-color process throughout, with silver foil stamping and it’s printed on uncoated Lynx Smooth paper.
3. Mitchell Press Creative Journal
Designed by John Belisle, of Belisle Creative, and printed by Mitchell Press, the Mitchell Press 2022 Creative Journal – “Imagination at work” is a self-promotional piece with a whimsical nod to creativity.
The journal was digitally printed on 130 lb. Cougar Digital Color Copy Cover and 70 lb. Cougar Digital Color Copy Text with additional substance and strength added to recognize that the company’s only limitations are by their creativity and imagination.
4. Area Real Estate Advisors
Self-proclaimed “hometown team that plays in the big leagues,” Area Real Estate Advisors hired Design Ranch out of Kansas City, MO to design their 32-page promotional publication. With striking detail, they trimmed, folded and collated short sheets with logo crossovers on both the front and back of the book.
The book was printed by J&J Printing using Cougar 80 lb. Text paper, with a smooth finish.
5. Fig Magazine
Fourteen years ago, Fig Industries, a marketing and design firm in Lancaster, PA, created Fig Magazine. The purpose of the publication was to revitalize their local city of Lancaster by “lifting up its small businesses and bringing them together to change perceptions and brand the city.”
The newest edition of Fig magazine for the city of Lancaster is a celebration of the beautiful cities that make up our beloved country. The magazine was printed by The Standard Group on Lynx 80 lb. Cover and 70 lb. Text with a soft-touch varnish.
6. Toothache Magazine
Toothache is a small self-published magazine made entirely by chefs with an intimate look into some of the world’s most celebrated award-winning chefs. The magazine is a collaborative project not only dedicated to your stomach, but also sustainability.
Printed by Hemlock Printers on Domtar’s Lynx Opaque Ultra 30% Recycled paper, issue 09 of Toothache Magazine is a 144-page perfect-bound publication. In addition to being a part of Hemlock Printers Zero Carbon Neutral Print Paper Line, Lynx30 was also selected for its sharp contrast and excellent opacity, providing minimal to no show-through.

ArtPrize is an independent international art competition in Grand Rapids, MI. It celebrates artists working in all mediums from anywhere in the world and is open to any artist.
With the assistance of Swift Printing, ArtPrize brought back their event guide for the 2022 world-renowned event. The centerfold of the ArtPrize guide has a pull-out map for use as an easy reference and a QR code to an interactive digital map.
Swift Printing made 35,000 copies of the event guide, trusting 60 lb. Husky Opaque Offset, Smooth Finish to handle both the volume and design intricacies of the project. The Michigan-based company printed the 28-page guide using their Speedmaster XL 75 Anicolor from Heidelberg.
8. St. Teresa’s Academy 2022-23 Brochure
Each year, the admissions department at Kansas City’s oldest school, St. Teresa’s Academy, conceptualizes and designs an admissions viewbook/brochure. They plan to use this as their “main book” for admissions for at least two years.
Modern Litho had the privilege of printing the evergreen printed piece and the paper of choice was 120 lb. Lynx Cover with a smooth finish and 100 lb. Lynx Text with a smooth finish.
9. Sprung Formal
A literary arts journal published annually since 2005, Sprung Formal was created and edited by students from the Liberal Arts and Graphic Design Departments at the Kansas City Art Institute.
With the technology and expertise of Soli Printing, the students wanted an off-white, uncoated paper because of weight and texture, so they selected 60 lb. Cougar® Natural Text.
10. INCITE Magazine
INCITE Magazine’s mantra, “Marketing ideas to incite action”, holds true with data enriched marketing best practices, inciteful case studies and thought-provoking content to help marketing professionals strengthen their impact on business success.
